It’s the last Monday in September in the ninth month. Can you believe that the year is almost over? Whew! It went by too fast. There’s still time though.
What is there still time to do? Serve. Be of service to someone. My Monday Motivational Moment is to encourage you to serve. Serving others is one of the greatest gifts we can give. Why? Because you are giving of your time.
Time is valuable.
We all value our time. But, we know that we should be generous in the giving of our time to those that need us.
Mark 10:45 (NRSV)
45 For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
I know you’re probably saying, “I’m too busy. I got a million things going on right now.” Right? Well, how many of those million things that you’re doing are for others. Serving others in a situation that is more beneficial?
We have to be of service. Serving others makes us not only feel better, but those we serve are greatly rewarded. Time can no longer be a variable. We must find a way to make our moments in life count.
Give of ourselves selflessly. Just like the Bible commands us to do. What if God was selfish with his time? How many of us would benefit? Not many.
But, there are many reasons to volunteer…
Still not convinced. Guess what I got to do this weekend? I got the amazing opportunity to be of service to others when my church had it’s annual Mission Blitz. It’s our annual day of service. We go out in the community and serve others through various organizations.
Where did I go? Martha’s Table. It was an amazing opportunity to serve others. Me and some of my fellow church members went to DC to help with their food distribution and you know what? We weren’t the only ones.
There were a number of other volunteers there. It was amazing. It was a great reminder of how bless we are to have access to food and quality food at that. I like some of the great programs they put on including a Pop-Up Market at local elementary schools and a couple of community centers. The Pop-Up Markets allow families to select from fresh, seasonal produce and healthy pantry staples at no cost every month.
Isn’t that amazing? There are so many people in this country who have food security issues and no access to fresh food that this organization is changing that. Can you imagine what it’s like to not be able to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables for your family? If you can imagine, can you imagine having an organization provide you access to the fresh fruit and produce at no cost to you?
Many organizations, like Martha’s Table need help all year round and I decided that I wanted to get some of my girlfriends involved. We always gripe about things that are stressing us out and wouldn’t it be amazing to do service for others? That’s one of my goals for the remaining 2016 and going into 2017.
Serving others.
Yes , volunteering can be so rewarding. For six months, I mentored a 6 year old in reading and literacy and it was a great experience. I’m going to more in some capacity later (nurturing children), but in my day to day life, I’m an uplifter- and that is of great service to people I come in contact with, and to myself.

Awesome! I was reminded of that this weekend. I truly missed volunteering and I realized that it improved my mood so I wanted to do a day of service monthly with some of my girlfriends. We forget how awesome it is to help others.

Yes, sis we do. We can always help others. Being of service is very rewarding and we have to remember that your religion or lack thereof doesn’t mean that you can’t help others. We are all called to help folks.

Agree 💯%!! I’ve done help at our local shelters and we have a local apple tree farm that the juvenile services take care off and then all the apples go to Baltimore to help families in need, since most of the boys we have in our DJS program are from the bigger cities in MD. Idc who ya are, helping others feels great in the end. Awesome you’re teaching lil Munch to be like this! More people need to think like this! “your religion or lack thereof doesn’t mean you can’t help others due to their religion or lack thereof”. Great post!

Volunteering can be great experience. I volunteered for almost a year to help kids whose family didn’t have much money and couldn’t afford to do activities like going to the swimming pool, the acquarium or the theatre because it was too expensive for them. I’ve created a real connection with these kids and it was by far one of the best experiences of my life ! Giving of our time to those that need us is always rewarding.

We are here to serve others and I love your blog. Volunteering at nursing homes was the most heart rewarding things I have ever done because I believe I was doing what God put me here to do.

Everyone should volunteer, in fact, it should be a mandatory class in school. Looks like you and your girls were all in good spirits.

Amen! I’m actually learning this right now; have been for a few weeks. Selflessness and service certainly gives a satisfaction in life that I’ve never experienced. Amazing that when we follow God’s word He’s faithful to fulfill his promises, isn’t it?

I love this, “what if God was selfish with his time.” Thanks for giving your time, maybe this will inspire others as well. I like sharing my time and talents it is always a great experience especially for me, i believe that in the end one benefits more than those that one is serving

I discovered volunteering last year summer and I can’t get enough, I feel like I can spend my whole life volunteering, a large part of it having access to internet is good for me, I did sleep on a tree if asked to, so long as there’s internet on that tree. My my, beautiful you, others too, keep up the good work. The world will be a better place if we all served with a good heart.

Being of service to others is one of the greatest things we can do on this earth. Volunteer, give, and be selfless — you never know when you’ll need to be on the receiving end.
