2500+ Thank You’s

I recently hit 2,500 WordPress followers. I humbly thank each and every one of you for following me. It has been an amazing journey and I am continuing to grow and learn with each passing month.

I’ve changed the layout of my blog and I’m trying some new things this year. Tell me what you think. I’m also going to start promoting the works of others. Bear with me as I will be out of commission for the next couple of weeks.

But, more importantly, I want to say that I am thankful for each and every one of you. You continue to read and engage me in my posts and I’m genuinely thankful for the interaction. You’ve become family. Here’s to continued growth for all of us.

Want to Guest Host?

Hello my faithful and wonderful readers. I am taking a blogging break from December 26 through January 1, 2018 to spend time with my Munch. If you would like to guest host on my blog during this time, let me know and I would love to host you.

Some housekeeping items for hosting on my site:

  • Read through my site. I discuss everything about life, love, dating, parenting and relationships and anything in between. Keep with my genre topics.
  • Make it fun and relateable. Let readers want to know more about you and to follow you.
  • Respond to any comments a reader leaves on my page. This is a must for me. Let them know that you appreciate their response on your post and answer any questions.
  • Keep the swearing to a minimum. I love a good curse word two, but your post shouldn’t be all about your invention of new curse words.
  • Posts should be between 250-800 words or less
  • Create a catchy title
  • Reblog and share on your site and social media handles

That’s about it. I will host seven bloggers and just let me know on this post if you are interested in being a guest blogger. Thank you in advance.

The Wheel

The wheels on the bus go round and round.
round and round.
round and round.
The wheels on the bus go round and round,
all through the town!

Sounds of five year old laughter echoing in the car. They are singing their favorite song. It warms my soul. My twins give me life. They are the essence of pure joy. I love listening to their little voices and the way they try to rationalize the world. It’s pretty hilarious.

It’s a horrible day outside. The weather sucks as I drive through the streets headed to their annual check-up. I really wish the sun would come out.

I sigh. I’m not complaining. I just like driving with better weather. I pull over and park in front of the Starbucks so I can get a coffee before heading into the pediatrician’s office right next door. We park in front of the bike rack and my twins scream “Look Mommy, the wheels on the bike are big and spinning. It has lights on it.” I smile and say “Yeah, baby. That bike is a cool color. Can you tell me what color it is?”

They laugh. “It’s purple Mommy” they say in unison. They are right. Geniuses. I tell my husband that all the time. He says “You’re right. We have the smartest kids in the universe.”

We head into Starbucks for my morning coffee and I get them juice boxes and apple slices. They speak to everyone and I am really afraid we’re going to be late now. “Come on babies. We have to go. We’ll be late to see the doctor” I say. “Mommy, we’re not babies” replies Addison.

She’s right. She’s also rather bossy for her age. Dean responds “Mommy, isn’t the doctor’s office right there? How will we be late?” he inquires. I sigh. My kids are too dang smart.

Out the door we go with our umbrellas and raincoats walking on the sidewalk to the pediatrician’s office. I hear tires squeaking and look back. I look back in time to see the car barreling down the street and headed straight for us. The driver is losing control of their vehicle.

I scream.

I look back to see my twins pinned underneath the wheel of the car.

Today’s post is inspired by the Daily Post. The word prompt was wheel

1000 Thoughts

Guess what I discovered yesterday morning? WordPress sent me this beautiful notification…

1000

Can you believe it? I’ve written or shared 1000 posts. Mainly written, but it is an awesome thing to know. I’m not doing this as a joke but for pleasure and purpose. I enjoy writing and sharing and interacting with you all.  If my posts inspire just one person to know that you are not alone and that I too have experienced similar things then I’ve done my job.

I’m not a stat watcher and my stats fluctuate often. Nature of the beast I guess. I love writing and I love blogging. Best advice that I can give is…do what you love. That’s it. Don’t worry about growing your followers, increasing your stats or spamming people. Be diligent about your craft and work your process. Legitimately.

Thank you for reading and following me along this journey. It’s been an eventful ride on a bumpy road, but such is life. I couldn’t imagine it any other way.

Danny’s World: A Common Question

It’s funny, I have no where near the numbers of followers that Danny and Jason have, but I get asked this question a lot too. Please check out what Danny has to say about growing your blog. He is one of the main people that I followed when I started to blog. Read him and you will understand why.

Woohoo! I am at 1,000 WordPress followers. I can’t believe it. Ya’ll remember that it was in late September that I was excited to have made 800 WordPress followers. I’m now at 1,001 and received this notice…

Never would I have imagined that I would meet such wonderful bloggers while just writing. Pouring out my heart and hoping that you can relate to me. I’m not the same person that I was last year. One year ago. I’ve changed so much.

Growth.

Pimping for Likes

A lot of bloggers have been posting their stats because it shows an increase in traffic to their blog. That’s awesome. We all want traffic to our blogs. That signifies growth for many of us.

However, there are some bloggers that aren’t doing that. You can tell by some of their depressing posts about not getting followers, viewers or maybe they should just stop blogging. A very pessimistic view towards blogging starts to emerge.  So, I ask the questions…

  • Are we mainly blogging for traffic?
  • Are we pimping our content for likes instead of writing genuinely?

The question was asked by another blogger, Jason, An Opinionated Man, whether you are here for the views. Do you care about the number of views? Great question right? Many bloggers are definitely here for views because they are writers who want to increase traffic and/or promote their books. Jason, has over 1.4 million views to his blog. But, what if you never get that many views to your blog?

all time views

Will you stop blogging? Will you think your blog worthless?  Jason spends a lot of time giving tips to other bloggers, promoting their blogs and writing himself  (his own book of poetry and blog posts). One of the lessons that is apparent in those that have a huge viewing or following is that they spend a lot of time blogging. If this is a part-time hobby for you then why should you care about views? Check out my views: 21,176. I’m no where near as big as Jason’s blog.

My all-time daily view was 307 on November 9, 2014. It was for this short story called By Faith that I published on this great blog I love called For Harriet. That was my all time high. Does it matter that I haven’t gotten more views than that? Nope, but what I am learning from that is that if I want more traffic I need to increase exposure by publishing on blogs that have a huge readership.

Well, here are my stats from February:

feb2016stats

Is it a bad thing that I don’t have that many views? Nope. I’m growing at the pace I’m supposed to. Sure, I would love to be bigger, who doesn’t? But, I ask myself this question…Do I have the time to write more than what I’m writing? The answer is no. I work a full-time job, do volunteer work, have a 7 year old son (who has activities) and I’m trying to be healthier. That means that I work out, hang out with my friends and read your blogs.

I’ve said before that I read between 100 – 200 posts a day because they feed through my email. Some of ya’ll post 3 times a day or more. LOL. I would have to cut that short or sleep less. I need sleep. I’m a better person because I’m well rested. I love the interactions with other bloggers and I love reading other people’s posts. Nothing is ever guaranteed, but for me right now I’m content with all that I have.
