Dating Chronicles: Overkill

So, I went out on a date with a new guy on Sunday. It was weird because as I’ve indicated I usually don’t do a first date until we’ve talked for at least a couple of weeks, but rather a meet and greet.  However, I decided to go with the flow and go out with him.  We ended up talking through the night on Saturday night and met for brunch on Sunday. Brunch was cool. We made plans to get together later that evening.

We went for pizza at this great pizza place in DC and then decided to take a walk around the White House and sit by the fountains on a bench and just talk. Super cool and a different kind of date. I usually don’t see a man but once a day, but then the fact that he suggested the walk in the park and drinks after was a good touch. After we sat and talked for about an hour and a half we went for drinks at the Sofitel Hotel. Beautiful bar area and we just talked some more. It was pleasant. Until…

The next day. He sends me these texts:

Now, I thought it was overkill to send the emoji with the eye wink and kiss. We only met Sunday. I didn’t respond. Then to send me another text two hours later and then a third text after that. It’s like “Dude, you truly are doing too much. Have a seat.”

He is a nice guy. I enjoyed his company, but I also value the ability to discern whether or not you’re doing or saying too much. One date. Is it too much to ask for you to recognize when it’s overkill?
