Motivational Monday Moment – 04.09.18

Happy Monday folks!

I pray that this day is amazing and that this week brings out the best in you. I saw this quote and thought that I wanted to use it in my Motivational Monday Moment.  It says “There’s going to be very painful moments in your life that will change your entire world in a matter of minutes. These moments will change YOU. Let them make you stronger, smarter and kinder. But don’t you go and become someone that you’re not. Cry. Scream if you have too. Then you straighten out that crown and keep it moving.”

Don’t you love it? How true is that? We’ve all been through some things that were designed to break us, but they didn’t. We kept moving. We learned to put our crown on and not let the events change us. I have to remember this. I have to remember that no matter what the enemy does to break me – I’ve survived.

1960e73edca64ac05b49b63fd93704bf

I’ve cried, screamed and cursed until I lost my voice. I still kept moving. The situations/circumstances are not going to be the end of my story. It shouldn’t be the end of yours.

I was on Facebook when this woman was asked about generational curses and how to break the cycle. For those of you unaware, generational curses are simply curses or bad things that are passed down in generations: alcoholism, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, incarceration, etc. They are things that many black folks don’t want to speak of but they are real. The Bible talks about them in Exodus 34:7:

Exodus 34:7  (NRSV)

keeping steadfast love for the thousandth generation,[a]
forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin,
yet by no means clearing the guilty,
but visiting the iniquity of the parents
upon the children
and the children’s children,
to the third and the fourth generation.”

She wanted to know how to break a generational curse of not having men in the family. It was divine intervention because it was like I had to respond. I explained that she just needed to make a conscious effort to do better. That she had a choice. When Christ died upon the cross he gave us free will. We all have it.

I explained that I understood about her concerns because many of my traumas ever experienced were caused by boys and men. Yet, God saw fit to give me a son to raise. You see how I thought God had a sense of humor right? He gave me a son to raise in spite of the trauma that man put up on me. But, with that decision He allowed me to know love and to pour in love so pure that my son won’t want to inflict trauma on another woman because his momma raised him right.

By living, learning and understanding the pain that I experienced and asking God to heal and love me, it allowed me to know love. A healthy love. I didn’t let my traumas break me. My pain had a purpose. A purpose to know love and a purpose to show love.

So, my Motivational Monday Moment is about getting up and not letting the pain distract you from your purpose. It’s okay to be emotional about your situation and your set back, but you have to know that it is only in your comeback that you show your true strength. Just keep getting up and moving.

Motivational Monday Moment – 03.05.18

It is the first Monday in March. How are you surviving? I decided that this month I wanted to find a quote that stood out to me and motivate you in this journey called life. Give you nuggets of wisdom that will help you get through the week.

So, every Monday going forward I will try to find a quote that speaks to my spirit of where I am and encourage you. I aim to be as transparent as possible with my readers and I just want you to know that even if you see a smile, sometimes I’m going through hell just like you. Being a Christian ain’t easy and staying motivated is sometimes harder than you can imagine.

First up is this quote that I saw last week. Please bear with me if I can’t remember the blogger that shared this quote first, but I saw it a couple of times. It was as if God was speaking to me. To remind me that the things that I’m going through are only temporary. I must keep moving forward. To not let the pain or anger weigh my spirit down.

This quote “Ships don’t sink because of the water around them; ships sink because of the water that gets in them. Don’t let what’s happening around you get inside and weigh you down.” How true is that? How many times have you let the water of your circumstances weigh your spirit (ship) down? Umm, let me raise my hand.

ships-dont-sink-because-of-the-water-around-them

See, I’ve been going through some things and I reached out to a friend who reminded me of the space that I need to get too. To remember that the enemy is always trying to attack, but stay steadfast in protecting my ship (my mind and life). Why is that so difficult to do?

Because we are human. But, my ship is full. Part of that ship is counting the blessings that are on board. My family, my friends and my love. All things that matter to me. I’m staying in the moment of gratefulness and trying to not allow those situations to dissolve and change me. I am bigger than my problems.

That’s my Motivational Monday Moment. Remember to not let what is happening around you weigh you down. You are stronger than you know. Remain unmovable and steadfast. This life is the only one that you’ll get, so don’t let your problems overtake your boat.

Motivational Monday Moment – 02.05.18

Happy Monday! Today’s Motivational Monday Moment came to me as I was sitting in church yesterday. I’ve been really going through it. Letting the negativity of co-parenting and the stresses associated with it weigh me down. It was weighing on my spirit.  I couldn’t get out of the funk and distress every time I received an email. It was overwhelming.

Everyone kept trying to encourage my spirit and make me feel better. But, they couldn’t. I knew who could and I wasn’t going to Him with my problems. I was trying to let man handle and help me through this situation. But, man was ill equipped because only God could.

Can I just tell you that when I went to church yesterday that the message was so on time. I had to remember that I am covered. I’m covered by the blood. God is the shepherd and I’m part of his flock and when I gave my life to Him He covered me. I’m protected. I just sighed. God was speaking to me yesterday.

Stay with me now. God was telling me that the is battle is already won because he has fought and protected me from so much now that I should know better. He was speaking to my soul. I was sitting there with amazing awe in my spirit because he was reminding me that no weapon formed against me shall prosper.

I had a shifting in my spirit yesterday morning. I was so busy being distracted by things that God doesn’t want me to focus on. I was being distracted by man instead of focusing on Him. I realized that I needed to do a couple of things. I needed to fast and pray and give it all to God in earnest. Not the “Oh, I’m going to see what God can do way. I mean full on give it to Him because He’s always protected me way.”

God was so generous to me yesterday because when I took my nap after church God gave me a dream that eased all my fears. My fears are always about Munch. God showed me that Munch was going to be okay. I just had to trust Him and lean not on my own understanding but that of God. He is the one that can truly handle any and every situation I find myself in.

Man, when I tell you that I’m in a different place than I’ve been in months, that was God. The Holy Spirit showed up and showed out yesterday and I am better for it. I am going to truly let Him work through this situation as He sees fit.

I’ve never fasted before and this is the first time that I’m ever attempting, but God wants me to fast and pray and turn it all over to Him. So, I am trusting that. I’m disconnecting from FaceBook for a minute and just going to journal, write, fast and pray. I’ll still blog. I’ll still be around. I just have to get together mentally and physically for the battle that is ahead.

My Motivational Monday Moment is simply to know that you are protected. You are covered by the blood because whom He has set free is free indeed. Whether you are going through your own storm or facing your own Goliath or trying to break the stronghold of the devil, know that you are covered. Know that this battle is one that can be fought if you stayed prayed up and covered.

This week’s video selection is from the movie The Gospel and I’ve chosen “Now Behold the Lamb” sung by  Tamyra Gray from American Idol. She sang the heck out of this song. This song speaks to my spirit in ways that you’ll never know, but it further planted and watered the seeds the pastor preached yesterday. I pray that this song speaks to you. In it she sings:

Even when I broke, broke your heart
My sins tore us apart
But I’m standin’ right here in the midst of my tears
I claim you to be the lamb of God
New life can begin, yeah
For you washed away, washed away everyone of my sins
Whom the Son sets free is truly free indeed
I claim you to be the lamb of God

You are covered by the blood. Even when you think you’ve been forgotten and you still sin God is still God and He forgives. He washes away your sins. You are because He is. We are because He is. He is the Lamb of God.

Day 5: My Faith

It’s the 5th day of my #23DaysofThankfulness and I’m thankful for my faith. My faith that has sustained me throughout my life. When the winds and storms of life were raging all around me, my faith was rooted in the fact that I serve an awesome God. It was my mom and grandma that instilled in me that God hears all and sees all and is a way maker.

That’s why no matter what I go through I tend to rely on the fact that I serve a mighty God. My faith doesn’t absolve me from having problems but it allows me to trust that God will be the way maker. My faith has allowed me to forgive my enemies and to continue to live a life focused on being a good human being. No matter how many times I keep getting knocked down. I get back up.

My faith doesn’t afford me the opportunity to sit back and believe that I should never have bad times. Because I’ve had my share. But, it allows me to know where my help comes from. Can I just tell you that sometimes in the midst of my pain all I could do was fall on my hands and knees and ask God for help? To yell out “Dear Lord it’s me standing in the need of prayer. Can you hear me?” He does hear me.

He does answer me. He does love me. He’s a never failing God. Today, I’m thankful for my faith.

I hope that you realize that it is the 11th month of 2017. The year is almost over. What were your goals? Did you accomplish them? Did you have to rearrange them? It’s okay if you did. Sometimes we have to rewrite our goals because life got in the way.

It’s never too late.

This month is Thanksgiving in the United States. This month I will launch my 23 days of thankfulness posts. I will count down each day everything that I’m thankful for. Will you do the same? Will you think about what you are thankful for? Will you let us know? We are shifting our perspective to focus on the good in our life. We are truly blessed. Let’s start sharing our blessings. My first post will be later on this afternoon.

Join me friends.

Monday Motivation – 10.30.17

Today’s Monday Motivation is about truth. Your truth. Loving and living your truth. How can you live if you aren’t truthful to you? Are you walking around faking it for your family and friends? For social media? How does that make you feel?

live-your-truth

You have to stop, love. You have to live your truth. You have to know that you were meant for greater things than just existing. Stop wearing a mask and pretending. You deserve to be happy.

13670722_f520

I’ve been there. I’ve lived a fake life. Trying to be happy. Trying to force a smile on my face when all hell was breaking loose around me. It’s exhausting.

No more.

No more living in lies. Live your truth. Love your truth. Love you.

walk-brave

By loving yourself and living in your truth, you free yourself from expectations of perfection or just from faking it. You owe no one, but you. No one can make you happy unless you’ve made yourself happy first.

fd751657a6c5bf56ada6900936a4f0de--drama-quotes-nice-quotes

Focus on your spirit. Focus on how freeing it is to honor your spirit. To live your truth. To walk in your truth. To be true to you.

live-your-truth-dana-kern

When I turned 40, I started listening to my inner spirit. I realized that I was doing myself a disservice all these years by not trusting me and by not living my truth. The truth is that I’m sometimes messy. The truth is that I hate folding clothes. The truth is that I sometimes fear that I’m failing Munch. The truth is that I can actually hate.

The truth.

The truth is freeing. The truth serves the purpose of helping you to realize how authentically and wonderfully made you are. Live your truth. Trust your truth. Be true to you.
