Sorry for the delay in posting. It has been a hectic week. I’m multi-tasking and getting overwhelmed. Whew! Breathe sis…

Okay, so it is the last month of 2017. It is almost over. Have you completed your goals? Are you struggling? It’s okay either way. You still have time to reach or restructure your goals. Furthermore, now is the time to figure out what you want to accomplish in the new year.

But, I want to caution you on looking to the future and feeling overwhelmed. Don’t! Think about what you accomplished this year and write it down. That will give you a realistic picture about how your goals and/or accomplishments lined up in preparation for your 2018 goals.

I’m excited to say that I had some great accomplishments and I will update you at the end of the month. I would love to know what you’ve accomplished this year as well. Let me know in the comments.

December is one of my favorite months because it is the month before my birthday month and it is the last month of the year. I am excited for Christmas, pageants and concerts. I’m excited for warm drinks, a crackling fire and beautiful Christmas decorations. I’m excited for holiday cheer.

Service to Others

One of my favorite quotes is by Shirley Chisholm. She said “Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.” This is a profound statement and something that I believe in wholeheartedly. I’ve tried to live my life serving others. This service is part of who I am and what I teach my son.

We must give back. We must make sure that we are serving others because it is through our service that we appreciate all that we have. We are to be thankful.

Whenever the opportunity arises to serve, I will always try to be available. It brings me joy being able to help others. To find ways to give back to organizations that service our community.

Wreaths Across America is an incredible organization that purchases wreaths for the headstones of our fallen soldiers. They rely on volunteers and organizations to assist in their efforts of giving back. They receive no government funding. It’s all individual sponsorships and some corporate sponsorships that allow them to do the work that they do. If you can donate a wreath to place on a headstone this year, it would be amazing.

I and many volunteers will be there to place the wreaths on the headstones of our veterans. We will say the names of those that have died serving our country as we place a holiday wreath on their grave site. We want to cover as many headstones as possible and with your help we can do so. Wreaths Across America

I need your help. My sorority has partnered up with Wreaths Across America to fund raise for wreaths to be placed on the grave sites of the fallen soldiers. We will be placing wreaths for the fallen soldiers on Saturday, December 16th at U.S. Soldier and Airmen’s Cemetery in Washington, DC and we need your help to reach our goal. Our goal is 100 wreaths.

This is our first year trying to fund raise for this wonderful organization and we want to make sure that we reach our goal. Wreaths Across America receives no government funding. Happy Independence Day!

Happy 4th of July!  The 4th of July commemorates our adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The Declaration of Independence said that Americans were no longer under British rule. Instead, the thirteen British colonies came together to become our own country.

I know it seems that we live in a country of over stimulation and unpopularity, but it is still a great country. Not by those who choose to discriminate against us, but by the people who want and know how awesome America is. There is a lot wrong with us right now, but we are still here united and determined to make this country a great one.

One of the most famous passages of the Declaration of Independence is “We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

Christmas Wish List

Can you believe that the holidays are around the corner? I remember this time last year praying that 2016 be better than 2015 and now we’re almost in 2017. Could it be better? Nope. I am truly blessed. I have so many blessings to be thankful for and I’m just looking forward to the holidays. I love Christmas.

Not for the gifts, but for the reason…Jesus is the reason for the season. I make sure to donate to multiple charities, give unwrapped gifts and participate in holiday sharing. Giving back is essential when you’ve been blessed. I’m setting up the tree, scheduling photos with Santa and planning photos in front of the National Christmas Tree with me, my man and my son. I’m really in the holiday spirit.

Since I am a difficult person to shop for and I don’t like surprises. I know, I know. Blame it on the Capricorn in me, I thought it would be great to give him a list of Christmas wishes. He could choose one, all or nothing and I would be just as happy. However, he’s a man and he may need a hint.

On the 5th Day of Christmas

What I received this year…

A healthier waist size – I never really cared for weight loss. Diets didn’t take. I hated to be restricted to anything. My weight and waist line fluctuated. I truly didn’t care. However, when I found out during my yearly physical that my glucose level was elevated and that the doctor wanted me to do a sleep study and talk about my levels I started to get concerned. I refuse to be on medication and I am my own best advocate. What can I do to get myself in order? My weight and waist were affecting my health so I had one thought…Time to get my fat a** to the gym.

Yep, I was fat. I wasn’t going to sit here and say that I was just thick and you either loved me or hated me anymore. Well, there’s some truth to that, but my health was more important and I needed to remember that my life was a gift. That gift allowed me to birth munch and I needed to be healthier for both of us. I didn’t want medication so what was I going to do? I started to work out, practice mindful eating and read the darn labels on food. Progress has been slow, but I have more strength and a fire in my spirit that says that…

I can and will do it.

I track my steps, monitor my sleep and work out. I’m learning to meditate to de-stress (this is still a work in progress) but I’ve made strides. One day at a time remembering that it is a marathon not a sprint. A change is gonna come as long as I am committed to being healthier.

On the 8th Day of Christmas

What I received this year…

Time – Time is the most valuable thing we have. This year I received the true understanding of the value of time. When I dated I began to realize that the men that I was dating would start off giving me time and then that would gradually fall off as we progressed in our getting to know each other stage. Their time was not given to me. As someone who appreciated time, this was in direct conflict with who I am and what I believe in so I moved on. Because what I know is that people make time for what they want. For example, the guy I’m dating now worked 124 hours in the last two weeks and still managed to give me time. Time: to date me, to work out with me, to hang out with me and to talk or email me throughout the day. I never felt shorted. For that I am thankful.

I also understood that our time here may be limited and it is incumbent on us to make sure that we value the people and relationships in our lives. Easier said than done huh? Nope, not at all. I thought I would have time with my estranged father to “fix us” but time is not on our side with him having cancer. So, I’m investing the time. I’m thankful for the time. I’m spending time. I’m cognizant of the time we do have and enthusiastically creating that father/daughter relationship. Each moment spent is an investment in our relationship and I’m thankful for all the time we have.

Time is more valuable than money and this lesson learned was an important gift that I wanted to share.
