Motivational Monday Moment – 02.19.18

Today’s Motivational Monday Moment comes from the movie Black Nativity starring Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Jacob Lattimore and Jennifer Hudson. The song that I chose from that movie was “Be Grateful”. This song was originally sung by Walter Hawkins and released in 1978. The original is magnificent, but this is a great rendition.

This is one of my favorite gospel songs. It reminds me to be grateful in all circumstances. Even when you are going through hell you should be grateful because God didn’t promise only sunshine. Every now and then we will get rain.

Some of the lyrics to the song are:

God desires to feel your longings
Every pain that you feel, he feels them
Just like you
But he can’t afford to let you feel only good (only good)
Then you can appreciate the good time

Be grateful(2x’s)
Cause there’s someone else who’s worse off than you
Be grateful
Cause that someone else who’d love to be in your shoes

Great huh? It reminds you that there is always someone off worse than you. Isn’t that what life is about? Being grateful.

If you only knew what I was going through, you would wonder how I have such a positive attitude. Let me tell you how and why? God. That’s it. Simply because I trust in the Master’s plan to see me out of each and every situation.

It’s Lenten season and while there are many people giving up things during this time, I’m asking you to not give up on God. See, we all get busy and we forget to thank and just pray to God every day. We forgot that His will never ends but we push him to the side.

We worry. We struggle to get through our trials and tribulations. We talk to our friends and family. We suffer in silence. Tears running down our face. We forget to give it to Him. Don’t give up on God, love. Be grateful that you have that relationship and count it all good.

So, my Motivational Monday Moment is about reminding you to be grateful no matter the circumstance. Know that trouble don’t last always. He’s working it out on your behalf. Remember that and be blessed.

Motivational Monday Moment – 02.12.18

Today’s Motivational Monday Moment came to me late last night as I was trying to figure out what song I could post to motivate and inspire you today. The truth is that we all need to be motivated. I need motivation and inspiration today.

God has been working on me and I told you last week how he had convicted my spirit. He’s working on my behalf and there is truly a shift in the atmosphere. I once heard a Baptist preacher say “If the devil is not busy trying to wreak havoc in your life then he doesn’t view you as a threat.”

The devil is busy ya’ll. But, I give it all to God and I want to encourage you to do the same. See, when we lean on him and not on our own understanding it becomes clear that there are things beyond our power that are happening. God is working on the situation and he’s working on you. Let him work.

The song that I’ve chosen for you today is “Father Can You Hear Me Now?” from Tyler Perry’s movie “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”. Although this isn’t a gospel movie, many of Tyler Perry’s movie have an underlining gospel feel. They are meant to bring God to the mainstream through the movie and song.

The main characters have a “come to Jesus” moment and realize that they couldn’t do anything without God. That is the message, right? The fact that the Alpha and Omega is all you need and you can’t do it without him. It’s about making sure that you understand that we all need God. We’re ready for God to intercede on our behalf in our situation.

Here is a sampling of the lyrics:

Father can you hear me
We need your love today
I know that you are listening
You hear me everyday
Father please hear us
And we will be OK
Father we need you to heal families today

Here’s the song. Listen to the words and the melody and let me know in the comments do you feel something? Do you feel the spirit? Do you need the blood of the lamb? Let this music invades your spirit this Monday knowing that God is with you. He’s got you.

Motivational Monday Moment – 02.05.18

Happy Monday! Today’s Motivational Monday Moment came to me as I was sitting in church yesterday. I’ve been really going through it. Letting the negativity of co-parenting and the stresses associated with it weigh me down. It was weighing on my spirit.  I couldn’t get out of the funk and distress every time I received an email. It was overwhelming.

Everyone kept trying to encourage my spirit and make me feel better. But, they couldn’t. I knew who could and I wasn’t going to Him with my problems. I was trying to let man handle and help me through this situation. But, man was ill equipped because only God could.

Can I just tell you that when I went to church yesterday that the message was so on time. I had to remember that I am covered. I’m covered by the blood. God is the shepherd and I’m part of his flock and when I gave my life to Him He covered me. I’m protected. I just sighed. God was speaking to me yesterday.

Stay with me now. God was telling me that the is battle is already won because he has fought and protected me from so much now that I should know better. He was speaking to my soul. I was sitting there with amazing awe in my spirit because he was reminding me that no weapon formed against me shall prosper.

I had a shifting in my spirit yesterday morning. I was so busy being distracted by things that God doesn’t want me to focus on. I was being distracted by man instead of focusing on Him. I realized that I needed to do a couple of things. I needed to fast and pray and give it all to God in earnest. Not the “Oh, I’m going to see what God can do way. I mean full on give it to Him because He’s always protected me way.”

God was so generous to me yesterday because when I took my nap after church God gave me a dream that eased all my fears. My fears are always about Munch. God showed me that Munch was going to be okay. I just had to trust Him and lean not on my own understanding but that of God. He is the one that can truly handle any and every situation I find myself in.

Man, when I tell you that I’m in a different place than I’ve been in months, that was God. The Holy Spirit showed up and showed out yesterday and I am better for it. I am going to truly let Him work through this situation as He sees fit.

I’ve never fasted before and this is the first time that I’m ever attempting, but God wants me to fast and pray and turn it all over to Him. So, I am trusting that. I’m disconnecting from FaceBook for a minute and just going to journal, write, fast and pray. I’ll still blog. I’ll still be around. I just have to get together mentally and physically for the battle that is ahead.

My Motivational Monday Moment is simply to know that you are protected. You are covered by the blood because whom He has set free is free indeed. Whether you are going through your own storm or facing your own Goliath or trying to break the stronghold of the devil, know that you are covered. Know that this battle is one that can be fought if you stayed prayed up and covered.

This week’s video selection is from the movie The Gospel and I’ve chosen “Now Behold the Lamb” sung by  Tamyra Gray from American Idol. She sang the heck out of this song. This song speaks to my spirit in ways that you’ll never know, but it further planted and watered the seeds the pastor preached yesterday. I pray that this song speaks to you. In it she sings:

Even when I broke, broke your heart
My sins tore us apart
But I’m standin’ right here in the midst of my tears
I claim you to be the lamb of God
New life can begin, yeah
For you washed away, washed away everyone of my sins
Whom the Son sets free is truly free indeed
I claim you to be the lamb of God

You are covered by the blood. Even when you think you’ve been forgotten and you still sin God is still God and He forgives. He washes away your sins. You are because He is. We are because He is. He is the Lamb of God.

Motivational Monday Moment – 01.22.18

Hey Everyone!

I’ve missed you all so much. Sorry for the unexpected hiatus. I had an accident and was out of commission and I’m just getting back in the swing of things. All is well and I missed you. I’ve learned a lot in my unplanned break and I realized that I hadn’t motivated you in the new year. Can you believe it? It’s the fourth Monday in 2018 and I haven’t given you a word of encouragement.

I am sorry. So, my motivational Monday moment is about the good. Finding the good. Seeing the good. Loving the good. Experiencing the good. Not just in today, but in everything. In you.

I get it. Life gets hard. You feel overwhelmed by the surrounding bills, lack of job opportunities or emotional stresses of your marriage and/or family. But, you woke up. I know it’s rough, but you have to take it day by day and hour by hour sometimes. You have to see that you can get through this situation and not let it break you because joy comes in the morning.

You have to be strong. You have to love the person looking back at you in the mirror. You have to see that you are worth it and know that you will survive. You have to feel that strength from the bottom of your feet and let it radiate through and around you. You can overcome this obstacle. You can overcome any obstacle. Thank God you don’t look like what you’ve been through.

Do you think I got married thinking that I would be divorced? Nope. My biggest fear was being a single mother. Why? Because I grew up in a single parent home when my dad walked out. I held out on having a child because this fear was real and present and I didn’t want to end up like my parents.

But I did.

I felt like a failure as a wife and a mother. I was repeating the cycle of having my son grow up in a broken home, but the love I had for Munch outweighed all my fears. Even when I couldn’t control the tears of my pain thinking that I was destroying my child, I knew that we would be okay. I needed to straighten my back and love this beautiful boy looking back at me because I knew that God never fails. I knew that I was finally free.

Free to be me. The real me. The me that doesn’t want to be bothered sometimes. The me that realizes it is okay to be perfectly imperfect. That’s when I started to grow stronger. To see that I could do it. Realizing that although my marriage failed, I wasn’t a failure. I was a survivor. I did it.

Audre-Lorde-Picture-Quote

I started to realign my thoughts, vision and faith to know that it will be okay. Fear is normal and I wanted and needed to be strong for Munch. It didn’t matter that I was met with anger, hurt, judgement, nitpicking and resentment. I had to keep pushing forward. But, you get that in anything right?

Whether you survived a bitter divorce, job loss, death or a dysfunctional relationship. You’ve survived something. Think about how it would have been so easy to give up and give in – but you didn’t. You are stronger than you think and give yourself credit for.

No one’s life is easy. Everyone has survived something. You have to remember that there is strength in the survival and your past is just that. Your past. It serves only to remind you of how badass you are for surviving.

Now what? You’ve survived. Your self-esteem may have taken a blow. You may have lacked the courage to get up and keep moving for a while. But, you have too. You have to love you. You have to focus on you. You have to be the motivating force in your life that allows nothing and no one to stop you from loving you.

When I learned to love myself…to truly love myself, it allowed me the opportunity to receive and know love from Mr. C. I knew me. I loved me and as much as I love and adore that man, nothing was going to stop me from loving me more. Me needs to be okay to be able to love and support him. Me needs to be a priority. Self-care and self-esteem need to be at the top of my lists in order for me to be able to be a good mom, a good manager and a good girlfriend.

I’m happy to say that I’ve been there. I’ve survived and you will too. Trust that your relationship with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have. What kind of relationship do you have with you?
